Lightning, thunder, and sporadic rain showers could derail what turned out to be the most romantic combo of rainy skies, sun-drenched Denver engagement session! Using radar we managed to find pockets of time to dash out into the now empty streets of Downtown Denver and Mother Nature turned the dial up to 10!

All of a sudden the rainy skies parted

The streets reflected the golden light saturating the air all around us! I couldn't believe our luck and the experience has re-enforced my policy of sticking it out, even when the weather is being crazy. Because epic weather usually means some kind of epic element to work with to enhance the photos. This time is was light. The crazy kind of light that only occurs after an intense summer storm. The air goes from heavy and thick, to the crisp mountain air Colorado is known for.

Sun-drenched Glow

The extra bonus from this wild weather, we had the downtown area almost entirely to ourselves. Something that is becoming increasingly rare these days!

I love the constantly changing decor that adorns the cafe lights strung across Larimer street. Every time I wander down there, something new is being celebrated, from our state flag, our local sports team, our nation's flag. The area is always festive. Yes, it's a popular place for engagement photos, but for good reason. It's BEAUTIFUL. Always, in all different times of day, in all different kinds of light. There are all these hidden spaces nearby with cozy lights, perfect for snuggling up and having your photo taken. I'll never get bored shooting here, never.

I know Denver is rapidly changing, looking less and less like the city I grew up in. But in this change comes a better sense of community, a growing number of colorful murals spread over once boring concrete box-like buildings. More and more parks are being developed, life has revived a once semi barren capital city. Welcome to the new Denver and all the crazy weather that comes with it!
